Fiscal Responsibility

Your property taxes should work as hard as you do.

Brooklyn Center residents already pay a higher tax rate than people in most comparable cities in the metro. That’s not a reason to panic — but it is a reason to be careful. Every dollar the city spends needs to count.

For the past 2.5 years, I’ve served on the Finance Commission, reviewing the city’s budget and asking hard questions about whether our investments are delivering results. I’ve also attended city council meetings firsthand — watching how financial decisions get made in public, listening to department presentations, and seeing where the gaps between intention and follow-through show up. I’ve seen where the city is on solid ground — and where it isn’t.

Here’s what I’ll fight for on the council:

Honest budgets

No more committing to things the city can’t afford to finish. If we’re going to spend money, we need a real plan for how it gets paid for — not just this year, but for years to come.

Accountability for results

Approving a program or a contract is just the beginning. I’ll push to track whether city investments are actually working — and to make changes when they’re not.

Fair service across every neighborhood

Every part of Brooklyn Center deserves the same level of city services and investment. I’ll make sure that’s part of every budget conversation.

Clarity for residents

You have a right to know how your tax dollars are being spent. I’ll push for clear, accessible reporting so residents can follow the money — not just trust that it’s being handled.

Brooklyn Center has real financial pressures and real community needs. Meeting both requires a council member who understands the numbers and asks the right questions. That’s exactly what I’ll do.
